S-92 Helicopter Operators Renew Contracts with Sikorsky

S-92 Helicopter Operators Renew Multi-Year Contracts with Sikorsky Amid Industry Challenges
Sikorsky has secured renewed confidence from six operators of its S-92® helicopter through multi-year Total Assurance Program (TAP™) contracts, extending aftermarket support for nearly 100 aircraft through early 2026. These agreements, structured as power-by-the-hour service plans, enable operators to manage predictable maintenance costs while ensuring timely access to replacement parts, a critical factor in maintaining high operational availability.
Endorsement of Reliability and Support
Leon Silva, Sikorsky’s vice president of Global Commercial and Military Systems, highlighted the strong demand from offshore energy companies to extend TAP agreements into the early 2030s. He emphasized that the multi-year contracts reflect confidence not only in the S-92’s reliability and endurance but also in Sikorsky’s capacity to supply or stock necessary aftermarket components. This support helps maintain the aircraft’s mid-90 percent availability rates, among the highest in the industry.
Bristow, the world’s largest S-92 operator, renewed its TAP agreement in April 2025 to cover approximately 60 helicopters. Since then, five additional operators, including Offshore Helicopter Services, have joined in, collectively ensuring support for nearly 100 aircraft through February 2026. These renewals underscore the trust operators place in Sikorsky’s aftermarket services and the S-92’s operational performance.
Challenges and Competitive Pressures
Despite these positive developments, Sikorsky faces significant challenges. Certification delays for the upgraded S-92A+ model, caused by test-stand issues, have raised concerns about the company’s ability to meet production targets and secure future orders. While some operators appreciate the stability offered by long-term service agreements, others remain cautious about potential delays in receiving the updated aircraft.
The competitive environment is also intensifying. Rivals such as Leonardo are promoting their own technological advancements, including the AW249 Fenice attack helicopter and the development of future tiltrotor aircraft, aiming to leverage any uncertainty surrounding Sikorsky’s product timeline.
Nonetheless, the recent contract renewals demonstrate sustained demand for the S-92 platform, particularly among offshore energy operators who depend on high aircraft availability and comprehensive aftermarket support. As Sikorsky addresses certification hurdles and strives to fulfill its commitments, the industry will closely monitor how the company navigates a competitive and rapidly evolving market landscape.
