China Airlines Signs TotalCare Agreement for 36 Trent XWB Engines

China Airlines Expands TotalCare Agreement with Rolls-Royce for Trent XWB Engines
China Airlines, the leading Taiwanese carrier, has entered into TotalCare agreements with Rolls-Royce for 36 Trent XWB engines. These include 30 Trent XWB-97 engines and six Trent XWB-84 engines, which will power 15 Airbus A350-1000 and three A350-900 aircraft, respectively. The order for the A350-1000 was announced by Airbus in 2025, marking a significant expansion of China Airlines’ long-haul fleet.
Commitment to Engine Performance and Maintenance
Under the terms of the agreement, China Airlines has reaffirmed its commitment to Rolls-Royce’s TotalCare service, a comprehensive package that provides long-term engine health monitoring and maintenance support. This partnership ensures optimal engine performance and reliability throughout the operational lifecycle. Currently, China Airlines operates 15 A350 aircraft powered by Trent XWB engines, and with this latest acquisition, its total A350 fleet will grow to 33 aircraft.
Proven Reliability of the Trent XWB-97 Engine
The Trent XWB-97 engine has established a strong track record of reliability and durability over seven years of service, accumulating more than four million engine flying hours. It has already benefited from the first two phases of a three-stage durability enhancement programme, which has delivered a 60% increase in time on wing. The third phase of this programme, scheduled to enter service in 2028, is expected to double the time on wing in demanding operating environments and improve it by 50% under less challenging conditions, further enhancing the engine’s operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
