GE Aerospace Expands Operations in Dubai South with New $50 Million Facility
Major Investment to Support Regional Aviation Growth
GE Aerospace has announced a significant expansion of its operations in Dubai South with the unveiling of a new $50 million On Wing Support (OWS) facility at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Aerospace Hub. The announcement, made during the Dubai Airshow, highlights the company’s commitment to supporting the rapidly growing aviation sector in the Middle East. The new facility is designed to meet the increasing demand for CFM LEAP engine services and to prepare for the forthcoming entry into service of the GE9X engine.
The new 120,000-square-foot facility will replace the company’s existing 29,000-square-foot site, effectively quadrupling its operational footprint in the region. This expansion includes the construction of a purpose-built facility, a lease commitment extending beyond ten years, and the integration of advanced tooling and capabilities. GE Aerospace aims to strengthen local expertise while servicing both regional and global customers through this investment.
Enhanced Capabilities and Strategic Location
Beyond servicing the CFM LEAP and GE9X engines, the Dubai South facility will serve as a central hub for field deployments, advanced technology development, and comprehensive training programs. Notably, it will be the first OWS site to feature dedicated maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) training facilities, which will enhance workforce skills and support customer training requirements.
Farah Borges, Vice President of Assembly, Test & MRO at GE Aerospace, emphasized the strategic importance of the investment, stating that the facility will enable the company to deliver world-class maintenance and overhaul services on a larger scale. She also highlighted the facility’s role in supporting the future deployment of the GE9X engine.
The expansion addresses the technical challenges posed by the region’s harsh, dusty environment, particularly concerning the durability of the GE9X engine. GE Aerospace is investing in advanced materials and conducting rigorous dust-ingestion testing to ensure engine reliability under these conditions.
Market Impact and Regional Significance
The announcement has been met with a positive market response, with GE Aerospace’s stock trading near record highs amid the Dubai Airshow and revised financial guidance. Industry analysts suggest that this move may prompt competitors to pursue similar expansions in the Middle East to capitalize on the growing demand for engine maintenance and support services.
Globally, GE Aerospace’s On Wing Support teams are responsible for approximately 35% of all LEAP engine overhaul shop visits, focusing on maximizing reliability and operational uptime for customers. The new Dubai facility will enable the company to scale its overhaul operations while continuing to provide quick-turn, lease pool, and field services across GE Aerospace, CFM International, and Engine Alliance engines.
The choice of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Aerospace Hub as the facility’s location underscores the UAE’s strategic role as a global aviation center. Dubai South, which will host the future Al Maktoum International Airport—planned to be the world’s largest—offers a unique gateway at the intersection of air, maritime, and ground trade.
Tahnoon Saif, CEO of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Aerospace Hub, welcomed the expansion, noting that GE Aerospace’s new facility further strengthens Dubai South’s position as a leading global hub for aviation and aerospace innovation.
With this development, GE Aerospace is positioning itself at the forefront of the Middle East’s aviation growth, ensuring customers have access to advanced technologies, training, and field support necessary to achieve operational excellence.
